Introduction

I’m just an ordinary man who has been blessed with an extra ordinary love in life.  I’m not rich by any of the world’s standards but I’m the richest man alive in many other ways.  This is a true love story of a man meeting a woman, finding love, having a whirlwind romance, marriage and so much more.  It’s not the perfect love story without any heartache but instead a real life honest love story that rises to sheer joy and happiness and at times plummets to sharp pain and disappointment.

God has so wonderfully redeemed the lost years. As we look back, we stand in awe of God’s wonderful plan of redemption. We also walked through many other trials that God delivered us from that only made our marriage stronger. In fact one reader wrote:

“Anybody who didn’t know you would think, OMG… This guy and his wife have been through a lot… Your story reminds me of a modern day Job.”

I attempt to tell our story without being preachy but in an entertaining way so that even non-Christians can enjoy the book while discovering how much God really does make a difference in a marriage was well as in each of our lives. Without giving too much of the story away I believe that whatever trial you may be facing might very well be something we too have at some point experienced in our lives and marriage.

At times I share our story using explicit language and intimate details. Our prayer is that by being so open and honest and by including such details that the reader might possibility see the true nature of a loving marriage and how it can stray so far from God’s will even when both the husband and wife are trying to live Christian lives. Sometimes we try to make our will God’s will and in some areas of our lives, at times, we did just that. You will see how God saved us even from ourselves and delivered us from these past sins and even used them in the end to bring us even closer together in our marriage.

Sometimes, like King David, I have screamed out to God begging Him to answer my prayer; then I’m reminded that 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says:

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”   So in the good times and even in the bad times we are told to “give thanks”. This is one of the hardest things for any of us to do but from this book I hope you see that is exactly what I am doing. I give thanks to God for making me, my wife, and my marriage as strong as they are today because we have come through these trials victoriously. Yet during any one of these past trials I admit it was hard and even sometimes impossible to give thanks.

I once heard that we can only control 10% of what happens in our lives. The other 90% we have no control over. The one thing we do control is our attitude. If we face life with a positive attitude even that 90% we can’t control won’t be so bad. But I have great news for you, I know who controls all 100% of our lives and in Jeremiah 29:11 NIV God promises:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” What a great promise that is and one that we count on even when facing the trials of life.

Through God’s grace and mercy the truly wonderful happy times in our marriage far out weighed the bad.  It’s these happy times we remember the best.  God carried us through all of the hard times and always reminds us of Proverbs 3: 5-6.

Proverbs 3: 5-6 (KJV)

5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
