Helps for Marriage The parable of the Grasshopper Kim A Goodin One day while feeding the horses I noticed a grasshopper in the water trough struggling to get out. I reached in and picked him up in my hands to free him. It wasn't long before he jumped from my hands back into the water trough. I watched as he tried once again to get out on his own. A small piece of grass floated by that he was desperately attempting to use as a floatation devise in a last ditch effort to save himself. Once again I reached in and gently picked him up in my hands to once again free him from his watery grave. Yet once again he jumped from my hands and back into the water trough. This time I decided to just let him sink or swim on his own and I went about feeding the horses. When I returned the poor grasshopper was exhausted and barely moving. This time when I reached in and lifted him out, he didn't try to jump away. I carefully placed him in a tall clump of grass and walked away. Shortly thereafter I noticed he was no longer there and must have found his way home. Like the grasshopper how many times have we struggled in life and even prayed for God to save us only to jump out of his loving hands the moment He comes to our rescue because we want to do it our way instead of God's way. After we reject His help I'm sure He allows us to struggle a little longer and even seek out our own safety devises before once again stepping in to save us. But until we are willing to accept His help in His way we continue to struggle without any end in sight. God is so good to step in when we ask. We need to accept His help once we seek it out. Like the grasshopper, we can't get out on our own. We must allow the hand of God to cover us and protect us. Remember to prayer together with your spouse and seek God's will in your lives. Never try to go at it alone. You become one flesh with your spouse and a team of three: God, husband, and wife.
